SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a woman who forced her 4-year-old daughter to drink so much water that she died.
Jennete Killpack of Springville was convicted of child abuse homicide in 2005 in the death of her adopted daughter, Cassandra. She was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.
The girl died in 2002 after being forced to drink nearly a gallon of water with her hands tied behind her back -- a punishment for sneaking a glass of Kool-Aid.
Killpack's attorney said she was following the advice of professionals when she used the water in an attempt to correct behavioral problems.
Killpack's lawyer raised five issues in appealing her conviction, including whether improper evidence was used during the trial.
The court rejected all five arguments.
