LUBBOCK, Texas — After a long month without his beloved pup, a Texas boy had all but given up hope that he'd ever see his missing best friend again.
But when the dog finally made its way home, the sweet reunion between the pair was well worth the wait.
Six-year-old Kahne Williams fell in love with Kase from the day the puppy was born, according to Today.
"We've had pets since my son was born and he has grown up with them, but he's never bonded with an animal like he has with Kase," Kahne's mother, Paula Williams, said. "This was his dog."
So when Kase went missing from the family's home back in early December, Kahne was devastated.
"We let him outside to go to the bathroom and when we went to let him in he was gone," Williams said. "We went searching up and down the street, but couldn't find him."
Kase didn't turn up after days of searching, and a blizzard rolled into the area, dumping 20 inches of snow. The Williamses feared their dog was stranded in the cold.
Fast forward one month — Williams was stuck behind a school bus in her neighborhood when she saw a dog rush out to greet the little girls who'd stepped off the bus. She instantly recognized the pup as Kase.
Williams pulled into the driveway of the house and spoke to the family, who said they found Kase wandering outside their home and took him in so he'd have food and shelter from the weather, according to Today.

"If they wouldn't have taken him in we don't know what would have happened," said Williams.
There was only one thing left to do: return Kase to the little boy who loved the animal so much. Williams surprised Kahne by calling him over to the car where Kase was waiting inside, and took cellphone video of the pair's sweet reunion.
"I missed you so much," Kahne says between sobs as he hugs his dog.
Williams posted the video to the Lost and Found Pets of Lubbock Facebook page, where more than 6.7 million people have watched the reunion and hundreds of thousands have liked and shared it.
Williams told Today she's been blown away by the response Kahne and Kase's story has received.
"The reason that I posted the video was to give people hope," she said. "It may be two years or two weeks, but there's still a chance you'll find your pet."
