SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah senator will introduce a bill this legislative session to outlaw smoking lounges in the Salt Lake City airport.
The American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation says the airport is one of eight major airports in the country that allows smoking indoors.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1P4t4CE) that the Utah airport includes five smoking lounges equipped with ventilation systems that filter smoke outside the building.
Airport spokeswoman Nancy Volmer says these spaces help reduce the number of people smoking at airport entrances and thus visitors' intake of secondhand smoke. She says they also contribute to shorter security lines since smokers don't have to go outside.
Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski says she supports the bill. The legislative session begins on January 25.
