BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's legislative budget-setting committee has approved two proposals to allow the Idaho Transportation Department to start on 30 projects aimed at fixing the state's aging roadways.
The committee voted unanimously to release about $50 million in general surplus money, giving the department an initial go-ahead to start on 17 new road and bridge projects.
In a separate vote, the committee also released a stream of new revenue to the department, funding another 13 other projects. The new revenue established last year comes from increases to the gas tax and registration fees.
ITD department officials say they would still need an additional $165 million to fully repair and maintain the state's roads and bridges, but ITD Director Brian Ness says he won't ask for additional money this year.
