OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An Ogden man who pleaded guilty in connection to a murder-for-hire plot in Weber County has been sentenced to probation.
The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1RTrR0a ) that jail time was not considered for Joseph Lopez because of his declining health.
Lopez pleaded guilty to attempted conspiracy to commit murder for hiring a friend to kill his daughter's boyfriend, an action he says was motivated by alcohol and concern for alleged domestic violence his daughter was suffering. He has been ordered to stop drinking as part of his probation.
Prosecutors say Lopez agreed to pay David Northcutt $2,000 to kill his daughter's boyfriend. He paid half up front, and both men called 911 after arguing about the cash.
Northcutt in August was sentenced to 165 days in jail for the same charge.
