FALLON, Nev. (AP) — A Navy pilot was forced to eject from his plane before it crashed in northern Nevada this morning. The FA-18A Hornet was flying on a training mission in a remote mountain area about 90 miles east of Reno. The pilot was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The aircraft was based at the Naval Air Station in Fallon.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The civilian head of the Boulder City police department has abruptly resigned amid scrutiny over the handling of a former animal control supervisor accused of improperly euthanizing more than 100 animals. A city spokesman said Bill Conger resigned Sunday. He couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas-area elected official has pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge and says he will still run for mayor. KSNV reports that former Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins was ordered to a 30-day suspended sentence and to attend a DUI diversion class.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A second suspect has been charged in the death of a Nevada man whose decomposed body was found in a shallow grave in the high desert. Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Allen says 52-year-old James Melendez was arrested in Arizona yesterday in the 2003 death of James Erwin in Golconda. Erwin's widow has also been charged.
