NIPTON, Calif. (AP) — Nevada is just one of six states where Powerball tickets aren't sold. Stores just across the state line in California have lines that can stretch for hours. The other states without Powerball are Alaska, Hawaii, Alabama, Mississippi and Utah.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Federal mine safety regulators say a fatal accident at a northeast Nevada gold mine was caused by inadequate policies and safety procedures involving the operation of a 20-ton drilling machine. The Elko Daily Free press reports that 26-year-old Jason Potter of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, died Aug. 3 after being struck by a drill steel at SSX Mine.
FALLON, Nev. (AP) — A U.S. Navy fighter pilot safely ejected before the plane crashed in northern Nevada during a training mission in a remote mountain area about 90 miles east of Reno. Officials at the Naval Air Station in Fallon said rescue crews safely recovered the pilot after the FA-18A Hornet went down about 8:30 a.m.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Strip is getting yet another drugstore, as workers are building a CVS on a half-acre site next to the Grand Bazaar Shops. Vegas Inc. reports that the store is scheduled to open in May. The pharmacies pay high rents for their prime locations, with an annual rent of about $125 per square foot.
