Puriefoy scores 18, Stony Brook tops UMass Lowell 86-59

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Carson Puriefoy scored 18 points and dished eight assists, Jameel Warney added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Stony Brook shot nearly 60 percent from the field to beat UMass Lowell 86-59 on Saturday.

Stony Brook (11-4, 2-0 America East) used runs of 8-0 and 17-4 to build an early first half advantage. Puriefoy was 3 of 4 on 3-pointers, and his make from beyond the arc less than 10 minutes into the game gave the Seawolves a 26-12 lead.

UMass Lowell (5-10, 1-1) used a Jahad Thomas jumper to get the River Hawks within 12 in the opening minute of the second half, but Puriefoy answered with another 3, starting a 9-0 run to build the Seawolves' lead to 21.

Thomas finished 8 of 14 with 19 points and six rebounds.

UMass Lowell made just four 3-pointers to Stony Brook's nine.
