NEW YORK (AP) — In Spite of Mama rolled to a seven-length victory Friday in the $59,000 allowance feature for New York-bred fillies and mares at Aqueduct.
The 4-year-old ridden by Jose Ortiz took command entering the final turn and cruised to a third win in 14 starts for trainer Mike Maker. The time was 1:43.05 for the one mile, 70 yards on the fast track.
In Spite of Mama paid $13.40, $4.20 and $2.30. Bella Joy rallied for second in the strung-out field, returning $3.10 and $2.10.
It was another 8 1/2 lengths back to Jc's Shooting Star, the 4/5 favorite, in third. She paid $2.10 to show.
