SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Condemnations are beginning to roll in after North Korea announced a successful hydrogen bomb test today. China, Australia and France have now issued strong rebukes. China, the North's closest ally, says the reported test was carried out in defiance of the international community and urged North Korea to refrain from acts that might worsen tensions on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea's president is vowing a tough response.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean lawmaker says there may be reason to question North Korea's claim of a hydrogen bomb test. Lawmaker Lee Cheol Woo says the country's spy agency notes the relatively small size of the seismic wave reported. Lee says it's only a fraction of what would be expected from a successful hydrogen bomb test and that even a failed test would register stronger than that.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is set to give final passage today to a bill repealing the health care overhaul. While it's the first to pass through the full Congress and be sent to the president's desk after dozens of failed attempts, it's expected to meet the same ultimate fate when Barack Obama vetoes it.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — An arraignment is scheduled in Southern California today for the man accused of buying the assault rifles used in the San Bernardino attack. Enrique Marquez Jr. faces charges of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. The charges are more serious than the ones he initially faced.
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A federal judge hears an appeal today in New Jersey from lawyers for three Muslim brothers convicted of plotting to kill U.S. military personnel at Fort Dix. The lawyers are set to argue that the New Jersey men were denied the right to testify at trial and should have their life sentences thrown out. The Albanian-born Duka brothers say they were coerced by defense lawyers to keep quiet. The brothers were convicted along with two others.
