BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash at the Cortez Mine in Lander County that resulted in the death of an employee.

The operator of the mine, Barrick Gold Corp., reported that 42-year-old Douglas Hicks had been driving a haul truck when he collided with another haul truck Monday. The collision took place in an open pit area. No other injuries have been reported.

Hicks joined the company in 2012 as an equipment operator at the Goldstrike Mine and transferred to Cortez in 2013.

The company says state and federal authorities have been at the site investigating the cause of the incident.
