SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah will keep sending money to the state Planned Parenthood chapter though the end of 2015 despite a judge's ruling allowing it to temporarily block the funds. A spokesman with the Utah Department of Health says contracts for sex education and sexually transmitted disease testing programs will run through Dec. 31.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — An Ancestry.com co-founder who pleaded guilty to attempted sexual abuse of a teenage girl has been jailed for breaking a no-contact order in the case. The Daily Herald of Provo reports 51-year-old Daniel Taggart was arrested after a judge ruled that he disobeyed the order at a retail store where 15-year-old works. He's facing up to five years in prison.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say a ski patrol employee was caught in an avalanche and partially buried at Snowbasin ski resort. Authorities say that Mike Erickson was doing avalanche control work when another avalanche broke off above him. A sheriff's spokesman says Erickson was taken to a hospital with injuries that likely include broken ribs, but he deployed a protective air bag that protected him from more serious harm.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Robert Stein made three field goals and Jatavis Brown led a smothering defense as Akron earned its first victory in a bowl, a 23-21 over Utah State yesterday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Stein, who became the school's career scoring leader with 268 points, connected from 29, 33 and 46 yards, and was selected the game's MVP.
