OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh plans to build a new intramural recreation field complex in an effort to give more students the opportunity to play intramural sports.

Vice chancellor of student affairs Petra Roter tells WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/1mggcMF ) that the school has had to turn away as many as 300 students who wanted to play sports like soccer and field hockey over the past three years.

Roter says the plan for the new complex was brought forward by students, designed by students and will be paid for by students.

Students voted in a 2011 referendum to increase student segregated fees by $10 each year to cover the cost.

The new complex will host club and intramural sports. It also will be rented out to the community.
