Omaha beats Southern 74-53 at tournament in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tra-Deon Hollins scored a season-high 21 points and made five steals and Omaha defeated Southern 74-53 on Tuesday.

The victory gave the Mavericks (8-6) the title in the Visitors' Bracket of the Global Sports Classic.

Hollins made 8 of 11 shots. Jake White added 16 points for Omaha, which shot 46 percent and outrebounded the Jaguars 43-31. Devin Patterson scored all 15 of his points in the first half with Hollins adding 14 when the Mavericks posted a 39-24 halftime lead.

Omaha took off to a 15-3 lead and never trailed. Its largest lead of 25 points came at 64-39 and Southern never got closer than 19 after that.

Jared Sam scored 18 points and Trelun Banks 12 for Southern (8-5).

Neither team shot well from the arc with Omaha going 4 of 14 and Southern 2 of 12.
