LAS VEGAS (AP) — After a rough childhood that included a period of homelessness, Lakeisha Holloway had become an award-winning high school graduate in Oregon and a caring mother. That recent picture of success deepens the mystery of how she wound up in a Las Vegas jail and on suicide watch. Holloway faces murder charges that she intentionally plowed her car into a sidewalk of tourists on the Strip Sunday night, killing one and injuring three dozen others while her 3-year-old daughter sat in the back seat.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A political consultant who's been accused of trying to bribe at least one Nevada lawmaker has been notified he's the target of a grand jury probe. Attorney David Otto says his client Tony Dane received a target letter last week that indicates he could be indicted on criminal charges. Republican Chris Edwards said at the time that the investigation focused on an attempt to get him to change his vote for speaker, the top post in the Assembly.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A review of U.S. regulatory fines issued to Nevada utilities for failing to ensure a reliable delivery of energy shows a variety of citations and penalties issued during the past six years. The fines range from a $52,000 settlement with Nevada Power Co. for mostly reporting deficiencies, to a $2,000 penalty in Lincoln County for having insufficient procedures to notify the FBI about threats of sabotage.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — U.S. Marshals say a multi-agency task force has arrested a Texas fugitive found in Las Vegas after he was charged with killing his mother. The joint agency said Garth Claytor was jailed in Las Vegas to await extradition to Texas. Clark County Detention Center's online site shows Claytor has a hearing today.
