WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has ended his 2016 presidential campaign. The South Carolina senator posted a video today saying he was suspending his campaign. He said he had run "a campaign we can be proud of" that was focused on the nation's security.
NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire are investigating what they call "detailed" threats that closed schools in the state's second largest district. The threats to the Nashua school district were made by email yesterday and were specific enough for administrators to shut all the public schools today. Some private schools in the southern New Hampshire city also closed, though police say only the two public high schools were mentioned. The closing comes less than a week after threats of violence shuttered schools in Los Angeles.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A hospital official says three people who were injured in a crash on the Las Vegas Strip are in critical condition. The spokeswoman at University Medical Center says their life-threatening injuries are being closely monitored at the Las Vegas hospital. Authorities say a car was intentionally driven on-and-off the sidewalk into crowds near the Planet Hollywood casino-hotel yesterday evening, mowing down dozens of pedestrians and leaving one dead. The driver is in custody. The Las Vegas Strip has reopened after being closed for nearly 12 hours.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Four college students from Oregon were among those hurt when a vehicle plowed into pedestrians on a Las Vegas sidewalk late yesterday. Pacific University says the students are members of the wrestling team and were in Las Vegas to compete in a tournament. A spokesman says 19 athletes and coaches were walking together when the car swerved onto the sidewalk. Three of the four injured students were taken to a hospital. Two students were later released, and the other was kept overnight for observation. The team won't compete in today's tournament.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Mall of America is taking legal action in an attempt to prevent a protest by the Minneapolis chapter of Black Lives Matter. The group says it will rally at the mall Wednesday to protest the fatal shooting of Jamar Clark, a 24-year-old black man who was shot by Minneapolis police last month. But the mall is private property and doesn't allow protests. Black Lives Matter organizers said they have no plans to halt the demonstration unless authorities meet their demands, which include releasing video of Clark's shooting.
