UNC Asheville takes down Georgetown for 5th straight win

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — Dylan Smith scored 19 points, Ahmad Thomas added 15, and UNC Asheville upset Georgetown 77-73 on Saturday for its fifth straight win.

Dwayne Sutton scored 14, Kevin Vannatta added 12, Will Weeks had 11, and the Bulldogs (7-4) made 9 of 18 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Trailing 41-39 at halftime, Georgetown's Isaac Copeland tied it at 43, then gave the Hoyas a two-point lead with a layup. The Bulldogs re-took the lead on a 3 by Vannatta and led by as many as eight until Georgetown closed within 70-68 with 4:42 left on a free throw by Bradley Hayes. Thomas made a layup and a free throw for a 75-71 Bulldogs lead and Smith iced it with two free throws.

Kaleb Johnson scored a career-high 16 points for Georgetown (6-5), which has also lost to Monmouth and Radford this season. Hayes finished with 11 points and had career highs of 18 rebounds and six assists.
