OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A serial arsonist in Utah will attend mental health court instead of going to prison.
The Standard-Examiner reports that 27-year-old Krisa Faye Harper pleaded guilty in September to setting a fire at a Clearfield apartment complex in March.
Harper has admitted to starting two other fires in the past two years. Her attorney, Bill Albright, says she has been diagnosed with several mental illnesses and needs the help of mental health court.
Judge David Connors said Tuesday that he took Harper's history of starting fires and mental illness into account and ordered her to serve three years of probation and complete a mental health program.
He warned Harper that she will go to prison for any violation with the Salt Lake City court.
