ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (AP) — A school district in the Detroit area has decided to base pay for non-teaching employees on student enrollment.
The Macomb Daily (http://bit.ly/1T3lKVL ) reports that the Board of Education for Lakeview Public Schools unanimously approved a contract with nine administrators this week that ties wages to revenue for the district in St. Clair Shores. Several other employee groups, including principals, paraprofessionals and secretaries, will be paid under the same system.
Under a sliding scale created by the administration, employees will receive a 1-percent pay cut if revenue declines by $550,000 or a 1-percent pay raise if revenue is increased by $750,000.
Lakeview Public Schools Superintendent Karl Paulson says the wages reward district employees if the revenue is available.
The pay adjustments will go into effect Jan. 1.
