ELON, N.C. (AP) — Tanner Samson took every shot from 3-point range, making six of nine to score 22 points as Elon drained 18 shots from long range defeating Alabama State 91-74 on Wednesday night.
Luke Eddy scored 18 points and dished nine assists, Christian Hairston added 15 points and Tyler Seibring 12 for the Phoenix (7-3), who have won three in a row. Forty of Elon's 67 shots from the field were 3-pointers. The Phoenix made 18 3s and just 12 field goals from inside the arc.
Corvon Butler scored 18 points to lead Alabama State (4-5) while Jamel Waters added 13, Tony Armstrong 12 and Steve Rogers 11.
Samson opened the game with four straight 3s and Eddy added a layup as Elon jumped out 14-0. The Hornets rallied to 63-51, outscoring Elon 19-8 over a stretch of the second half, but came no closer.
The win was Matt Matheny's 99th as coach at Elon.
