PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A decision from Maine's highest court clears the way for a lawsuit against a Scarborough nursing home filed by a former employee who says she was fired for raising safety concerns.
The decision centers on Karen Cormier, who was fired from Pine Point Center about four years ago. The center is owned by Genesis Health Care. Cormier says Genesis changed its staffing routine to reduce the number of nurses working in her unit. Cormier says she complained to managers that there were not enough nurses to respond to residents' needs in time.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1I999jf ) reports the case is the fifth complaint of retaliation against a whistleblower at Pine Point Center in recent years. Genesis did not respond to requests for comment.
