MADRID (AP) — Spanish opera star Montserrat Caballe has been given a suspended sentenced of six months in prison for tax fraud.

The sentence was the result of an agreement with the prosecution that avoided the need for a trial.

She will not have to enter prison as first convictions resulting in sentences of less than two years in Spain are suspended.

Caballe, 82, confessed that in 2010 she lived in Spain but was registered as a resident of Andorra for tax purposes. Prosecutors said she failed to pay the Spanish treasury 508,468 euros ($558,450) in taxes on her earnings.

The Catalan regional justice department said Tuesday that Caballe was also fined €326,000 euros ($358,000).
