More drivers across the country are taking advantage of an auto insurance premium that is based on how many miles you drive. But somebody is keeping an eye on them.
Pay-as-you-drive auto insurance is available in 34 states but not in Utah.
"It will make people more honest about where they really go and how many miles they really use with their insurance company," said one woman.
But there is a trade-off. The OnStar system tracks your miles. Not everyone likes Big Brother.
"I think I would rather have privacy than the lower rates," another driver told us.
One company claims mileage-based rates lower premiums by 13 percent.
"Based on miles sounds like a good idea. You don't pay for what you're not using," another man said.
No insurance company has filed for pay-as-you-go in Utah.
