COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a parked vehicle in Coeur d'Alene. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that police checking reports of a suspicious vehicle early yesterday found 22-year-old Richard Baumgartner of Hayden unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A judge has ruled in favor of the Idaho State Police in a lawsuit filed by a former police sergeant who claims the agency mishandled a fatal crash involving a police officer. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports the judge has ordered former Sgt. Fred Rice's claim to be dismissed without prejudice. Payette County Deputy Scott Sloan had crashed into Barry Johnson's vehicle while responding to a 911 call, killing Johnson.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — An attorney in southwest Idaho says a highway district commissioner refused to allow a court-ordered inspection of his property after being accused of storing surplus scrap metal there. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that John McEvoy of Caldwell has pleaded not guilty to the contempt charge. A trial date has been set for February 10.
MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — Meridian police say a man apparently impersonated a police officer when he stopped and questioned two teens. The mother of a 13-year-old boy contacted authorities on Saturday night. The teen told officers he was with a 14-year-old friend when they were approached by an adult man who identified himself as a law enforcement officer. Police say the man took a picture of the 13-year-old's school ID card.
