LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A.J. Spencer scored 16 to lead five Long Beach State players in double figures as the 49ers beat Tampa 87-60 Saturday night.
Travis Hammonds and Noah Blackwell scored 13 apiece, Roschon Prince added 11 and Nick Faust had 10 points for Long Beach State (6-6).
Long Beach State took a 38-29 lead into halftime. Hammonds and Justin Bibbins hit back-to-back 3-pointers before a dunk by Mason Riggins capped an 8-0 run to start the second half. Tampa trailed by double figures the rest of the way.
Marcel Robinson led Tampa with 15 points, all on 3-pointers.
Long Beach State outrebounded the Spartans 46-34, including 15-8 on the offensive glass.
The teams combined to make 15 of 42 (36 percent) free throws.
The game served as an exhibition for Division II Tampa.
