NEW YORK (AP) — Awarding of the Heisman Trophy will take place tonight in New York. The final three this year consists of running backs Derrick Henry of Alabama and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey along with Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — In an early afternoon Top-25 basketball game No. 15 Providence beat Bryant 92-59. The Friars, who are 10-1, were led by the 17 points scored by Drew Edwards.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Phillies and Astros have pulled off a trade. The deal sends closer Ken Giles to the Astros in a seven-player deal that brings former No. 1 overall draft pick Mark Appel (uh-PEHL') to Philadelphia.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh's Penguins have fired coach Mike Johnston. He has been replaced by Mike Sullivan, a former head coach of the Boston bruins who was serving as the coach of Pittsburgh's affiliate in the American Hockey League.
