ETTRICK, Va. (AP) — Virginia State University's incoming president is getting a jump on the job, plotting out a course for the Ettrick school.
Media reports state that Makola M. Abdullah made his debut Friday at VSU as he was introduced to students, faculty, alumni and staff. He officially takes office on Feb. 1.
Abdullah has already submitted a vision for his first 100 days in office.
Amid praise for the university, he also acknowledged VSU's challenges. They include a revenue shortfall and enrollment declines.
The 46-year-old Chicago native comes to Virginia from Florida, where he has been provost and chief academic officer at Bethune-Cookman University since 2013.
He succeeds interim president Pamela Hammond, who filled in after Keith Miller resigned a year ago.
