MT. PLEASANT — Lone Peak was in trouble early, but rallied late for a 68-65 win over Wasatch Academy to survive the Tigers' upset bid in Thursday's opening round of the FreeTaxUSA.com Shootout.
Duke-bound senior Frank Jackson scored the go-ahead bucket on a floater in the lane with about 40 seconds left, and the Knights moved to 3-0 on the season, handing the Tigers (7-1) their first loss.
Jackson finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds, and Steven Ashworth added 16 points on four 3-pointers.
Utah State signee Koby McEwen led Wasatch Academy with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Jackson Rowe had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
In other games, Gavin Baxter scored 14 points of his game-high 25 points in the first half as Timpview rolled by Foothill (Nevada) 75-38 in the early afternoon game at Orem High. Baxter, who has signed with BYU, also had 11 rebounds for a double-double, and teammate Colson Santiago supplied 16 points, including five 3-pointers.
Salem Hills followed with a 63-55 loss to Mountain View (Arizona) in the following game at Orem.
