ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A 15-year-old girl has been sent to a juvenile treatment facility for assaulting a police officer during a melee near an eastern Pennsylvania high school.
The teen was sentenced Wednesday after prosecutors say she admitted to attacking the Allentown police officer who was trying to break up fights around William Allen High School in October. Police say the teen pulled the officer to the ground by her hair and punched her in the face.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Jeff Dimmig says the teen was sent to the Perseus House in Erie and could stay there until she's 21. Juvenile sentences are reviewed every three to six months.
Defense attorney Catherine Kollet tells The Morning Call her client will receive the treatment she needs to "positively re-enter the community."
