WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — The Warwick School Committee has fired its facilities director, but the specific reasons for the firing are unclear.
Superintendent Philip Thornton had confirmed that David LaPlante was placed on leave Friday. The committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to fire him.
Thornton says there were some problems in the department in terms of purchasing items. He says students were not endangered.
Mayor Scott Avedisian told WJAR-TV that an investigation is ongoing. He says police executed a search warrant at his house, which is why the committee moved to terminate him.
It's not clear what was found in LaPlante's home.
