SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Police say a Layton man who ran over a toddler in his pickup truck had been denied a driver's license due to his eyesight. The Standard-Examiner reports a probable cause affidavit says Aaron Burlison, who is charged with manslaughter in the child's July death, had his left eye closed due to a failed cornea transplant. Little Lexie Smith was struck in an apartment complex parking lot in South Ogden and died.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert unveils his wish list today for Utah's roughly $14 billion budget. The Republican governor's proposal comes days after state officials announced the state would have an extra $560 million to spend next year. Herbert's budget proposal will serve as a jumping off point for state lawmakers who meet for their annual session in January and set the budget.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal officials are rescheduling a sale of oil and gas leases on public land in Utah that was delayed amid protests from environmental activists. The BLM says the sale will be Feb. 16 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Environmental activist groups had applauded the delay. They had planned to protest the auction, saying it would accelerate climate change and harm the environment.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — DeMarcus Cousins had 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists as the Sacramento Kings beat the Utah Jazz 114-106 last night. The Kings took a 12-point lead after one quarter and never trailed again in ending a three-game losing streak. Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward both had 18 points for Utah, which had beaten the Kings three straight and five of six times.
