BALTIMORE (AP) — Jeff Short scored 20 with seven rebounds and Charles Oliver hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range and finished with 18 points to help Norfolk State beat Coppin State 88-56 on Monday night.
Short made 6 of 9 field goals while Oliver hit 5 of 7. D'Shon Taylor added 13 points, on 5-of-8 shooting, with five assists for Norfolk State (4-4, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Jonathan Wade added 10 points.
The Spartans closed the first half on a 13-4 run and took a 47-34 lead into the break. They then opened the second half with a 14-4 spurt that pushed the lead to 61-38 with 14:21 remaining and Coppin State (2-6, 0-2) trailed by at least 20 the rest of the way.
Norfolk State shot a season-high 55.6 percent on 54 field goal attempts, including 7 of 13 from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Eagles 39-25.
Keith Shivers led Coppin State with nine points on 4-of-15 shooting.
