There's nothing better than a full day of skiing (or snowboarding), fresh powder and the company of great friends and family. It's pretty well-known that Utah is home to some of the best ski resorts in the world. Less well-known to most, is the short list of awesome eateries in the resort areas which offer up some of the best "stick to your gut" snacks.

So, when you're at the resort and you're starving after your 14th run of the day, consider sticking around for some deelish après-ski grub while you enjoy the views. Here are a bunch of resort spots around the state you'll want to try.

Best Classic Comfort Food: High West, Park City

Right at the end of Quit 'N Time, you can ski right up to one of the best western-inspired comfort foodie places in the Utah: High West. The bison burger is pretty darn great, but if the Five Cheese Fondue, Chicken & Wild Mushroom Pot Pie, or Wild Boar Stew doesn't pull you in, we don't know what will. Next time you're in Park City, be sure to check out this little gem; it's the real deal.

Best Open-Late Spot: Tram Club, Snowbird

You just had to get in that last run and now you're famished, the cafeteria is closed, and the game already started. No worries, man, the Tram Club at Snowbird is open for business. Famous for its unabashedly early '80s vibe, great prices (as far as ski resort prices go) and flat screens all around; you can catch your favorite game without spending a ton doing it.

Open until 11 p.m. during the week and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, this is the place to go before you hit the hay at the Cliff Lodge for the night after a long day of shredding.

Best Nachos: Molly Green's, Brighton

This is exactly what après-ski places are meant to be. Located on the upper floor of the A-frame at the base of the mountain at Brighton, Molly Green's offers easy access, great views of the mountain, and a menu that is classic comfort food. Known mostly for their garlic burgers (with entire cloves of garlic!) and mountainous nachos, the food will certainly hit the spot, especially while surrounded by the classic, cozy decor and setting.

Best Appetizers: The Peruvian Bar, Alta

Which appetizers are best? Well, free appetizers, of course! Known as the P-Dog, the ski-in, ski-out Peruvian Bar at Alta is the perfect place to get some appetizers and popcorn before swapping stories from the day with your friends. According to their website , it is a "local favorite and deemed one of the most liveliest places at Alta especially during après-ski." We're definitely in.

Best Burger: Shooting Star Saloon, Huntsville

When discussing the best burger in Utah, the Shooting Star Saloon undoubtedly comes up. While not directly within a resort, leaving Shooting Star off of this list as a top apres-ski destination would just be plain stupid. Why? Because the Shooting Star Saloon was born in 1879, making it the oldest saloon in Utah and well worth a visit to experience the unique atmosphere.

The owners have made a commitment to keep things as they've always been. While you're there experiencing the uniqueness, order the burger. It's like enjoying a little taste of Utah history and your stomach won't regret it.

Best Ambiance: Cinnabar, Snowbasin

If you find yourself up north at the very under-rated Snowbasin resort shredding some of the best powder you can find in Utah, make sure to swing by Cinnabar for your après-ski. This place just oozes cozy, and they're celebrating their 75th anniversary, so get up there and help them celebrate!

New this season: brisket sliders and pork verde nachos. Signature items: flank steak sandwich, fish & chips, and the bison burger. All delicious, and all accompanied by live music. As Rachel Ray would say, Yum-O.

This list doesn't even scratch the après-ski surface, but it's a start. For a complete list of Utah ski resorts and their many food offerings, check out Utah.com, your complete resource for all things Utah.
