SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's Kelsey Nixon won't be the next culinary star of television's Food Network.
The Brigham Young University graduate was eliminated from "The Next Food Network Star" competition Sunday after a Las Vegas-based cooking challenge. Nixon was one of four remaining finalists on the reality TV series.
The North Ogden native was cut after Food Network chef Paula Deen dished on Nixon's petite pork loin and chicken parmigiana entrees. Deen said the dishes would make better appetizers.
The 23-year-old Nixon told TV judges she wasn't discouraged. She says she's determined to make cooking on television her career. Nixon's created her own program for BYU television while still a student.
Nixon wasn't without some culinary success. One of her recipes from the program is being featured on Red Lobster menus nationwide and another was tapped for Bon Appetit magazine.
