LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming is tightening its residency requirements for students to qualify for the nation's lowest resident tuition.
The Laramie Boomerang reports (http://bit.ly/1QJNFMc ) that the UW Board of Trustees last week voted to approve new residency standards.
Students will have to show that they're financially independent of anyone out of state. For example, a student who lives in Wyoming but still relies on their parents in Colorado for money would not qualify for resident tuition.
UW tuition last year was $13,620 for nonresidents and $3,390 residents.
UW Vice President Rick Miller says the change won't be so restrictive as to dismiss students who do plan to make Wyoming home. Student rejected for residency can appeal the decision and argue they should be counted as Wyoming residents.
