PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Alec Wintering scored 17 points and sparked Portland to an 87-57 victory over Abilene Christian on Sunday night in the first rounds of the Corpus Christie Coastal Classic.
The Pilots (2-2) will face Alcorn State at home Tuesday before heading to Corpus Christie to begin the bracketed portion of the tournament with a game against Colorado State. Alcorn State lost to UTEP 88-66 on Sunday.
Wintering was 7 of 10 from the field and 3 for 3 from beyond the arc. Bryce Pressley added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 2 of 4 from distance.
Portland raced to a 48-15 lead at intermission.
Duran Porter scored 14 points to lead Abilene Christian (2-1), which struggled from the field, connecting on just 15 of 52 shots from the field (28.8 percent).
