SALT LAKE CITY — Good handwriting counts, perhaps even when attempting to rob a bank.
About 5:35 p.m. Tuesday November 3, a man walked into a Wells Fargo, 778 S. Main, told the teller he had a gun, though none was seen, and demanded money, said Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.
But when the teller asked the man what denominations of money he wanted, she was unable to understand him.
"After some confusion, the teller told the suspect to write what he wanted on a note," he said.
The man wrote something on the notepad, but the teller was unable to read it, Wilking said. The frustrated would-be bank robber eventually left with no money.
Police were looking Wednesday for a black man in his 20s with a skinny build. He was last seen wearing a red, long-sleeve shirt with a white logo on the front, blue jeans and a black bandanna on his head.
Just 30 minutes earlier, a man with a similar description robbed Mountain America Credit Union, 1225 S. Redwood, after handing the teller a note demanding money.
The holdup happened while a bank patron not involved in the incident stood behind the robber in line wearing a T-shirt with the message: "Keep Calm and Walk On."
