(KSL News) Police have arrested a Holladay man for beating his girlfriend with a hammer, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Detectives say the 19-year-old man hit her in the head, feet and knees at least 40 times while their infant was crying. Sheriff's deputies believe the man also punched, kicked and bit the woman.

Investigators say the man told his girlfriend to lie or he could have her mother killed if he was sent to prison.

The man is facing third-degree felony assault, domestic violence and witness tampering charges.
