GREEN RIVER, Emery County — Authorities are seeking the public's help after the body of a woman was found along the banks of the Green River.
Emery County sheriff's dispatchers received a call about 1 p.m. Thursday from a man who reported "a very decomposed body on the west side of the river," according to sheriff's spokeswoman Janalee Luke.
Deputies went to Green River State Park, boarded a boat and found the body downstream on a sandbar about one mile south of the spot where Interstate 70 crosses the Green River, Luke said in a statement issued Monday.
Initially, deputies could not determine if the body was male or female. There were no tracks around the body, other than animal tracks, and it appeared the body washed up from the river, she said.
The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office has since determined that the body is that of a post-menopausal female, said Luke, adding that this is the only identifying information investigators had Monday.
Detectives and the medical examiner were still trying to determine who the woman is, her cause of death and the circumstances surrounding her death, Luke said.
Anyone with information about a missing woman, possibly between the ages of 50 and 65 years old, should call the Emery County Sheriff's Office at 435-381-2404.
