NEW YORK (AP) — Game 5 in the World Series is tonight in New York and with a win the Royals will clinch their first world championship since 1985. Kansas City took a 3-1 series lead last night and this evening sends Game 1 starter Edinson Volquez to the mound against Matt Harvey. It was after the first game that Volquez found out that his father had died and he plans on honoring him tonight with his name written into his cap or on his glove.
LONDON (AP) — The city of London witnessed another NFL game earlier today. The result of the contest at Wembley Stadium had the Kansas City Chiefs heading home feeling pretty good about themselves, while the ride home to Detroit for the Lions isn't so good. The Chiefs walloped the Lions 45-10 as quarterback Alex Smith passed for two scores.
DENVER (AP) — Two of the remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL are meeting tonight in Denver. Both the Broncos and Packers enter the game with records of 6-0. Each team is well rested, coming off a bye week.
UNDATED (AP) — The new AP Top-25 college football poll is out and the top spots remain the same as last week. The first five features Ohio State, Baylor, Clemson, LSU and TCU number-five. Ohio State retained all 39 of its first-place votes while Baylor and Clemson each got six, LSU five and TCU four.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer is retiring at the end of the season. He has been the Hokies coach for 29 years. The 69-year old is the winningest active major college football coach with 277 victories.
