WEST VALLEY CITY — A 12-year-old boy who was hit by a utility truck while on his way to getting on the school bus Friday morning has died, officials said.
Ashton Roach, a seventh grade student at Brockbank Junior High, was hit around 7:15 a.m. while crossing in the middle of the street near 3100 South and 6880 West, where he darted in front of the car, according to West Valley police.
Roach was transported to Jordan Valley Hospital by ambulance then transported to Primary Children's Hospital by medical helicopter. Police originally stated his injuries were not life threatening.
According to Ben Horsley with Granite School District, no services or memorials have been planned with the school yet.
Ashton's great-aunt, Kerri O'Connor, said he died just before 10 a.m. Tuesday at Primary Children's Hospital. His family was around him.
Ashton had a fractured skull and had fractures in his pelvis, left leg and arm and eye socket. He went into a medically induced coma Friday.
O'Connor said they were hopeful he was going to be OK until this morning. He had taken a bad turn in the night, and his heart began having trouble and his brain was failing.
A GoFundMe account* was set up for Ashton, and O'Connor said it will help his parents.
"He is such a darling little kid and we just really love him," O'Connor said.
