POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A festival in Post Falls that would have included sending hundreds of flaming lanterns into the night has been postponed due to fire danger in Kootenai County.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/203CCki ) that The Lantern Fest was planned for this weekend at Stateline Stadium and Speedway, but has instead been rescheduled to Nov. 14.
Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Capt. Jeryl Archer says he contacted festival organizers on Tuesday to cancel the event.
In order to host the festival, both organizers and the speedway had to carry a $1 million insurance policy on the event. Organizers had to hire a license pyrotechnics company, cap the number of lanterns at 5,000, present a plan to recover 98 percent of lanterns and be approved for a permit.
