KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Harold Cooper ran for a career-best 123 yards and a touchdown and Rhode Island picked up its first victory of the season with a 20-0 win over Delaware on Saturday.
The Rams (1-5, 1-2 Colonial Athletic) posted their first shutout since a 3-0 win over Maine in 2006, 100 games ago. It was also Rhode Island's first win in the series since 2011.
The Rams intercepted Delaware (2-4, 1-2) quarterback Joe Walker three times, including Tez Wilson's 25-yard return for a touchdown, Rhode Island's first pick-six since 2013. Cooper's score came two plays after a pass interference penalty called on Delaware in the end zone. Cooper has back-to-back 100-yard games after rushing for 109 in a loss to Brown.
Justin Rohrwasser kicked field goals of 28 and 41 yards.
Delaware outgained Rhode Island 283-239 but missed two field goals while the Rams played turnover-free football.
