NEW YORK (AP) — A nonprofit that promotes arts education will put 75 blank canvases around New York City for passers-by to draw or paint on.

The interactive public art event will take place on Oct. 17.

It's being organized by Project Art. The group offers free art classes for children at public library branches. It also advocates for more school funding for the arts.

The 75 canvases will be up for three hours on Oct. 17. Paintbrushes, paints and other art supplies will be provided.

A spokeswoman for Project Art says volunteers will cover the canvases if it rains.

The resulting collaborative artworks will be exhibited at a Manhattan gallery on Oct. 20.
