ODENSE, Denmark (AP) — Roberto Bautista Agut and David Ferrer won their matches Sunday as Spain defeated Denmark 5-0 in the Davis Cup's second-tier relegation playoff.
Agut beat Frederik Nielsen 6-3, 6-4 and Ferrer defeated Mikael Torpegaard 6-1, 6-3 to close out the hard-court tie.
Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco had secured Spain the victory in advance by winning the doubles match on Saturday. Nadal and Ferrer won their singles matches Friday to give Spain the lead going into the weekend.
With the victory, Spain gets to stay in Group 1 for the Europe-Africa Zone, with a chance to return to the world group next year. Denmark will play Sweden in a second relegation round.
Nadal was back in Spain's Davis Cup team after a two-year absence.
