SANDY — The second of two men who police say burglarized a house while a 15-year-old girl was home alone inside was arrested Thursday night.

Heath Miller, 36, was arrested for investigation of burglary, theft and failing to stop for police.

On Sept. 16, the teen was in her second story bedroom, near 10700 South and 500 East, when she heard glass breaking downstairs. The girl hid in her bedroom and called her mother who then called police.

Two men opened the garage door and backed their car in, said Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger. They went through the house, but fled before trying the girl's bedroom because they could hear police coming, he said.

One man got out of the fleeing vehicle and ran. The other continued in the car until he ran a red light at 9000 South and 700 East and crashing into two other vehicles, Carriger said. The fleeing car hit a Chevy Tahoe, causing the Tahoe to roll. Two people in that vehicle suffered minor injuries.

After next crashing into a Honda, police say Niklus Beauchaine got out and ran, but was quickly chased down and arrested.

Since then, police from several agencies had been looking for Miller. Carriger said Unified police detectives were familiar with him and had been going to places that he was known to frequent.

Thursday night, detectives found Miller at a business near 4100 West and 5400 South.

Miller has a lengthy criminal history, according to Utah state court records. When he was picked up Thursday by police, he also had warrants for his arrest stemming from a felony drug charge filed in August, and for a second case involving theft by deception and unlawful acquisition of a credit car.

Miller has also been charged over the past 15 years with multiple counts of theft, burglary and aggravated assault, according to court records.
