SANDY — A teenage girl was at home alone when burglars broke into her house Wednesday, police said.

The 15-year-old girl called her mother when she heard glass breaking around 2:15 p.m., according to the Sandy Police Department. Investigators said the mother in turn called police, who found the burglars still at the home near 520 E. 10700 South.

When police arrived, the burglars backed a car into the house, according to police. They said one person then took off on foot while another headed down 700 East in the car.

The driver reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of 700 East and 9000 South and collided with a car heading east. That collision caused the car to roll and hit a third vehicle, according to police. The driver then fled the scene of the accident on foot but was arrested.

The driver was identified as Niklus Beauchaine, 36, of West Jordan. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary, theft, and failure to stop or respond for police.

No one involved in the three-car collision reported having any injuries, according to police.

Investigators are still looking for the man who took off by foot from the house. They described him as being a white man with a goatee who is wearing dark clothes. He is believed to be in the area of 500 East and 10700 South.

"This 15-year-old girl did everything right," Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger said. "She heard something, felt something was wrong and she immediately notified her parents so that the police could be notified, which probably helped keep this situation becoming something worse for her."
