ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt man was arrested Tuesday after police say he threw bricks through the windows of a parked SUV, fired shots into the vehicle and then threatened to kill himself, prompting a four-hour standoff with officers.

Brandon Francis Johnson, 31, became enraged when he went to the Uintah County home of a woman with whom he has three children and found another man there, according to Roosevelt Police Sgt. Pete Butcher.

Johnson threw bricks through the windows of a sport-utility vehicle parked outside the woman's home, Butcher said. He also shot out the SUV's tires and fired bullets through the hood of the vehicle, the sergeant said.

The woman was able to get the gun away from Johnson, climb onto the roof of a structure and throw the gun down the chimney, according to investigators.

Johnson left the woman's home before police arrived and went to an elementary school, where he picked up his 5-year-old son and took him to Johnson's home in Roosevelt, police said. Johnson left the boy with a neighbor, who turned the boy over to the child's grandmother.

When officers reached the home in Roosevelt, Johnson held a rifle to his head, Butcher said. The ensuing standoff continued for four hours before Johnson surrendered to police.

Johnson was booked into the Uintah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Court records show Johnson pleaded guilty in July to misdemeanor charges of assault, interfering with arrest and disorderly conduct. The victim in that case is the same woman involved in Tuesday's incident, according to court records.
