RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A former Virginia lawmaker who spent his days at the General Assembly and his nights at a county jail is dropping his campaign for a state Senate race.
Former Del. Joseph D. Morrissey announced Thursday he's dropping his bid because of health problems with his diaphragm.
Morrissey faced felony charges after being accused of having an improper sexual relationship with a then-17-year-old employee, with whom Morrissey fathered a child. He entered into a plea deal and was sentenced to six months in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Morrissey commuted to the last legislative session from a Henrico County jail while serving his sentence.
Morrissey vacated his House seat to challenge Democratic Sen. Rosalyn Dance.
