SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A drone flying over a wildfire burning near Deer Creek Reservoir forced authorities to ground firefighting planes yesterday. Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands spokesman Jason Curry says that the small unmanned craft forced a plane to waste a load of fire retardant and grounded all the aircraft fighting the fire from the air for an hour.
MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — Three people were been arrested after a stolen car crashed into a home near Salt Lake City this morning. KSL-TV reports officers had been tracking the stolen car overnight. It sped away as officers were trying to pull it over on Interstate 215, then crashed into the front door of a home in Midvale. No injuries were reported.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City-based Disability Law Center says Utah is violating the rights of criminal defendants who are not competent to stand trial by leaving them waiting in jail for months before they can be treated. Department of Human Services spokeswoman Heather Barnum says the agency continuously reviews the quality of its services and that the Utah attorney general's office is reviewing the lawsuit.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Labor Department is taking legal action to collect $1.9 million in unpaid penalties from a polygamous group led by Warren Jeffs that was fined for child labor violations. New legal documents also seek back pay for 1,400 workers — including 175 children— who federal officials say weren't paid in the 2012 pecan harvest.
